News | “Biodesign is here, now. And it’s for you too”. Mediamatic baptizes new location.

In less than two years Mediamatic has changed locations twice. After leaving the Vijzelstraat, the institution spent more than one year in an old warehouse at the VOC-kade (Mediamatic Fabriek). As an exhibition space, the VOC-kade location was quite impressive. However, the conditions of the building plus the climate challenges forced the Mediamatic’s staff to have their hands on the maintenance or adjustment of the warehouse. Nevertheless, this warehouse offered the space to experiment with Acquaponics and to build a Clean Room to grow mycelium. In fact, these matters formed the beginning of Mediamatic’s main current focus, which will be reinforced at the new location they inhabit. The institution is now based in Dijksgracht 6, since now known as Biotoop Dijksgracht, and it carries the promise to “co-create a new cultural bio-art lab within the city of Amsterdam”: a public biolab.
